Huge Cabled Throw

Walking into the McGuire showroom in High Point, I ogled the huge, beefy, cabled throw on the bed and assumed it was uber high end. "Not so," said my guide, "It was quickly found yesterday at Anthropologie to finish off the display." Happy about the prospect, I made my way to the local Anthro in Greensboro and bought one. While NOT totally wool (I wish) this is a stunning and unique throw that is lighter and less scratchy for the bit of nylon thrown in. I'm an optimist.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Anthro had a 100% wool version of this a few years ago, the Colossal Cables Throw. The nylon was a good addition- mine pills like crazy, shedding ivory colored fuzz balls everywhere. I'd get rid of it, but I'm pretty sure my cat loves it more than he loves me.
At $228 this may be a good find for non-knitters. But you can buy enough real wool to make your own for less with the know how. And you can probably make it for MUCH less if you do an acrylic blend like the Anthro version. Also, the odd smell in the comments concerns me. Often manufacturers don't let the acrylic air out and it gets a plasticky PVC smell that disappoints. I would definitely expect more for the price point.
This sounds a little too much for not being wool or even a natural fiber.
Ahhh, yea. Knitters love these kinds of "finds".
Even a beginner could whip this up without incident and for much cheaper -- in a nice natural fiber. The pompoms are also not my thing, but I'm sure someone's cat would abs love to destroy them.
