Side Chair by Norman Cherner

What more can I say: I bought two of these chairs in Stella Orange for our old, tiny apartment and love them dearly (that's my pic at left). They're not only super comfortable and slim, they're a part of US design history.
Designed by Norman Cherner for Plycraft in 1958 as a companion to the Cherner Arm Chair, the Side Chair comes in a lot of finishes and with upholstery.

Graceful and light, yet so impactful.
I'm wondering, how does this chair hold up to use ( 'larger' individuals weight) or is this potentially only an issue for repro's?
holy hell, that's 2 mortgage payments for me
I love these Cherner chairs. I especially like the arm chair, with its graceful, thin arms coming around as if to hug itself :-)
A classic, but a ridiculous amount of money. I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality and value in this DWR Salt Chair for $99: http://www.dwr.com/product/salt-chair.do?sortby=ourPicks#.UP1ekuiR9DI
That's really insanely expensive for something so simple, design classic or not.
I remember finding those pair of daring red chairs in your house tour- I had to search them as they were unknown to me in the beginning- love them!
Holy pocketbook batman. You got robbed. I like these chairs even less knowing how much they cost.
That IS pretty expensive, but I guess if you can afford it, why not? I paid $6 each for my kitchen chairs at Value Village. :)
Quite the contrary, the Cherner chairs are NOT "super comfy." We bought the Cherner armchair as a highlight piece but it's not the most comfortable chair to sit in. Lucky for us, we got it a discount as an floor model. What I found more than the Cherner? Every other piece of chair that we have, a Panton chair, an IKEA PS Slingra, a Kartell Louis or Victoria Ghost chairs, a CB2 orbit chair, an Eames dining chair, etc...
My original Cherner is treated as an accessory and is not where someone is likely to plop down. I've sat on it to tie my shoes once in a while, but original or reproduced, I can't imagine using them as dining chairs unless the users/guests were all healthy and not obese. They might look great around a dining table, but I wouldn't describe them as enjoyable.
Exactly my point...The back of these chairs are not high enough, and I find that were the wood ends feels uncomfortable. I think MGR is just trying to justify purchase of these showcase pieces with comfort.
