Soapwalla Deodorant Cream

I don't usually make recommendations in the body care department, but I find some daily products beautifully thought through, effective and surprisingly joyful. Soapwalla, a Brooklyn company founded by Rachel Winard, is doing this sort of work. Rachel's deodorant "cream" is a case in point. Made from "superfine vegetable powders, clays, and lavender, peppermint and tea tree essential oils," it doesn't have aluminum in it or hardeners to turn it into a stick, hence the cream.* You use your finger to rub a small amount into your armpit, and then you feel fresh and stink-free all day. Actually having contact with what you are putting on your body feels really right, and the cream's natural texture and smell seem more fitting than stronger smelling and watery stick deodorants. This, along with the soap I found yesterday, is a big recommend.
*"Soapwalla's Deodorant Cream is free from harmful chemicals, petroleum, or aluminum compounds found in commercial antiperspirants (linked to alzheimer's and breast cancer), is vegan, and is never ever tested on animals."

I've been testing this out for months and it's fantastic! Don't give up on finding an effective natural deodorant until you try this cream!
Hi hrhprincessfiona: It hasn't marked any of my shirts in my experience, but it is not an antiperspirant so you may still sweat a little (sans smell), especially if you wear synthetic fabrics. I purchase it from her Etsy store which has plenty of reviews on the product if you are interested. Hope this helps!
I haven't worn deorderant for years and honestly, don't need it unless it's a super hot day and I'm walking. I do like this idea ALLOT!! I will search ETSY for it...thanks for the post.
I love the lavender scent. Unfortunately, I left mine in a hot car and it separated and got grainy. Not sure if it's still okay to use.
If you go to the Soapwalla's website on it, she puts a note in there about it separating in hot weather. Here's the blerb:
"In hot weather, your deodorant may arrive in a liquefied state - don't fret! I don't use any unnecessary waxes or hardeners, so temperature fluctuations will alter the solidity of your deodorant. Simply mix thoroughly to reincorporate clays and liquids, then pop in the freezer for about 20 min, until resolidified. You'll be as good as new!"
This is great great stuff. It works better on stink than than any deodorant I've tried. My husband now uses it and half my family.
It does sometime separate through shipping or hot weather. Give it a good stir and let it get cold. It will be fine.
Have it, love it!
Love this stuff! My boyfriend and I both use it and it works great.
I love this deodorant! It does not mark clothes at all. I live in Miami, and I only need to use old-fashioned antiperspirant a handful of times a year.
Interesting. I might try this. The bad thing I've discovered about some traditional stick deodorants is that the smell of the product gets into your clothes and can be very noticeable until they're washed. (Just airing them out in between wears isn't sufficient, in other words.) By contrast, I've found that going without deodorant seems to be just fine in terms of personal hygiene and at the same time prevents my clothes from getting that sharp chemical smell.
I have used this deodorant now for a year and I can't say enough good things about it! Yes I still sweat occasionally, but NEVER stink. This is a truly amazing product. I'm so happy to see it featured on AT. This product never shows on my clothes and it has a very lovely but subtle scent that does not compete with perfume the way some other deodorants do. I have put it through the test with several hot yoga classes with absolutely no stink after! I hope Rachel gets a lot more customers from this post. She has such fantastic products at her ETSY site!
Hm, this sounds like it would smell nice, but does it really help with odor? My go-to deo was a L'occitaine product, but the product has been discontinued. Why??? Now it has been a trial-and-error mission in finding a replacement that won't irritate and darken my skin as well as protect against odor.
Did you use the purifying roll on deodorant? I adore it and just realized it was out of stock at Sephora--please don't tell me it is gone forever!!
I really like the deodorant itself, but I don't like applying it with my hands. First world problems.

The deo I used was L'occitane's L'occitan (purple label). It smelled fresh and protected against odors. I tried their Eau des Baux deo, and it was a complete waste of money. Since then I've been a bit apprehensive in trying their other deos for fear of wasting money on lousy products. This is the second product that L'occitane has discontinued...I loved their rice face lotion, and it's nowhere to be found. Quite annoying.
I was very hopeful, but it didn't work for me. I stunk and had wet underarms. Sorry, TMI but I think others who fall victim to sweaty pits will suffer a similar fate...Love the concept of no aluminum, but this is for those who are blessed with perfect pits.
