We were checking out a band in the East Village when our eye was caught by this pendant lamp in a small restaurant on Allen Street. Shiny, bulbous and somehow conveying an older aesthetic, we'd never seen it before. We took a quick photo and then found it online: Splügen Bräu.
Designed by Achille Castiglione for FLOS, the Splügen Bräu is primarily a polished zapon-varnished spun aluminum reflector with a light hid within. It is not totally hidden, however, and provides directly light below. Not great over a dining table (unless very low), we like these in a hall or over a bar (where we saw them).
