Nice find. I reach for my Sabatier carbon-steel chef knives 3X more often than my German ones -- the balance and sharpness are unparalleled.

This set is a mixed set of stainless steel knives and in less-useful shapes/sizes. I was at Costco the other day and re-discovered a Henckels set that they carry from time to time which is a copy of the French-style in (presumably) German steel and comes in a variety of useful shapes/sizes at a great price.

They don't have it on the Costco website, but they also turn up on eBay from time to time. The set is worth checking out for someone not interested in investing many hundreds of dollars in a modern Wusthof, Global or Shun set and doesn't have the time to scour eBay for vintage ones.

I have the middle size and it is my most used knife. It's about 30 years old and good as new. (I do take care of it.) I'd carry it out in a fire.

I love these knives. My landlord provided our flat with a full set - now I am converted!
