Since opening in 2001, Green Demolitions has received donations from area homeowners and businesses (including architects, kitchen designers, builders, contractors, interior designers and realtors), floor samples from retailers, overstocks, returns, and refurbished items from wholesalers, and discontinued items from manufacturers (many new-in-box). They also get 2-3 tractor trailer loads from KBIS every year (the National Kitchen and Bath Industry trade show).
Here's how it works (via their website):
First Call — The first step is to have the donor contact Green Demolitions via e-mail/phone to let them know of a potential donation. Green Demolitions will then follow up with their client.
Inspection — Green Demolitions inspects the property available for donation. Once the charity agrees to accept the items, the donor will sign a simple donation agreement form.
Scheduling the donation — Between the inspection and the pick up date, Green Demolitions handles all necessary arrangements with the contractor, insurance certificates (where needed), and the donor.
Donation removal and pick up — Green Demolitions provides free labor on many items and always free pick up. Free labor is determined at time of the inspection. Green Demolitions employs only professional and insured contractors.
Donation valuation — The donation valuation is based on the dollar amount the charity sells the items for. Green Demolitions carefully tracks and provides the donor with the resale total after the items are sold.
Tax paperwork — Green Demolitions provides the donor a contribution acknowledgment for tax purposes and all additional tax paperwork.
Green Demolitions has 3 stores (Norwalk, CT; Bethel, NY, Honesdale, PA) and also features nationwide shipping to all 50 states via UPS ground and freight with very reasonable shipping rates and fast delivery.
Perhaps most notable of all, Green Demolitions exists to support the outreach programs of All Addicts Anonymous (AAA). Since Green Demolitions' involvement, AAA groups have started in California, Washington, Texas and New York, and AAA's The 24 Newsletter (containing vital resources and other literature) now has hundreds of readers.
Green Demolitions is a terrific organization and resource, and the only one of its kind.
