Area 51

Area 51

Area 51 is probably one of the first mid-century inspired modern home stores we ever drooled over when they opened 10 years ago, when our interest in home decor was still nascent. Partly to blame are the enormous store front windows facing Pine Street, looking in on a cavernous converted warehouse space.

The store carries a wide selection of upholstered pieces, all with customizable fabric. If you don't mind off-brands, you can find reproductions of iconic pieces like the Eames Management Chair, various stools and the like. At prices much friendlier than the originals.

Ceramics by Jonathan Adler are joined by sculptural and wall art by local artists, like the Amplifier Worship(er) work by Garek Druss. The (again, fabulous) warehouse space is host to periodic openings and events.

Area 51 recently expanded into the adjacent space, and the black walls and concrete floors show off a selection of driftwood pieces, part of Area 51's growing focus on sustainable furniture.
