I get really excited over handcrafted goods by local designers and artists. Ashes & Milk seeks out some of the most talented artists who are passionate about life's little details, which are then incorporated into their work. You can find anything from a flower shear to nature inspired artwork.
Founded on the principle that a lot can be created from very little, Ashes & Milk divides its inventory into very basic departments: Ceramics, Stone, Textile, Metal, Wood, Paper and Melange. With the belief that things brought into the home should have a soul and history, all items from this Chicago-based are handmade by one person, for one person.
One of my absolute favorite products is their Soda Fired Shallow Bowls from Japan. Their irregular pattern and hue is what makes them so special and beautiful. I would love to buy the shallow bowls for a holiday party. Early Christmas present idea?
Ashes & Milk has a pretty awesome blog as well. Check out their blog for a behind the scenes look at the design process of their products. I scrolled through and indulged in post after post of inspirations - wow!
