Store History

  • Founded: 1998
  • Founded by: Laurent Charlet
  • Headquarters: Brooklyn, NY

Architect and designer Laurent Charlet works with a simple palette of materials, including American walnut, ash, and white lacquered wood.

His collection is similarly limited — it's all squared-off geometric storage pieces, tables, and shelving — but within those limitations, he's found a language of sophisticated, thoughtful design.

Oringally from France and Switzerland, Laurent has a Masters in Architecture from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale in Lausanne. He explains the collection as the result of a research-intensive process involving careful attention to materials:

"We constantly look for more effective and rational ways of bringing our designs to life, while keeping a close eye on quality. Research is an integral part of this creative process, leading to the development and use of materials and techniques less harmful to our environment.

We source ourselves the materials used for the fabrication of our furniture, avoiding imports of endangered wood species and controlling shipping distances and methods so as to minimize the carbon footprint of each piece, using recycled materials as often as possible."
