We can't imagine a better store to feature as we kick off our month of kitchen and bath coverage in Chicago. It's an old school, a-z decorative hardware mecca that has been around for over 100 years. If you haven't shopped there yet, you probably will eventually!Clark & Barlow is located in an old brick building at Grand & Orleans and it is a multi-story shop featuring 6,000 square feet of hardware from the most basic to very high end.
The decorative hardware is housed in the second floor showrooms. A worthwhile stop when you are planning (or dreaming up) a job, there is plenty on display and in catalog to choose from. According to their site, 500 manufacturers are respresented with 10,000 decorative hardware items available. Salespeople are super knowledgeable and there is, in our experience, a good amount of stock on hand.
Years ago, we replaced all of the (really awful, shiny, cheap, gold finish) doorknobs in our apartment with new ones from Clark & Barlow. We had an idea of what we wanted - something matte, round, slightly euro-looking, but nothing too fancy....and, if possible, something that we didn't need to order. The salesperson listened, showed us a few things and within a half hour we were walking out with 7 boxes of doorknobs, ready for installation that afternoon. Success!
In addition to the decorative hardware, they also cover other hardware basics - builders hardware, hand & power tools, janitorial supplies and a locksmith service with rekeying.
