This was my first time at the High Point furniture market, and I figured a company like Drexel Heritage would be showcasing typical traditional furniture — i.e. heavy sofas with turned legs and dowdy upholstery. Instead, I was surprised to see bold color, big patterns, and a collection strongly influenced by fashion. So much for my smug, citified preconceptions.
Drexel has been a wholesale furniture company since 1903. They're under the umbrella of the Thomasville Group, which owns Thomasville, Drexel, Broyhill, and Lane. Drexel is their most fashion-forward brand, and they've had in-staff designers creating special collections since the 1930s.
The line on view at High Point included lots of chevron stripes, bright pink in a Honeysuckle-ish shade that's very 2011, bold florals, and tons of upholstered coffee and occasional tables. The tables are a nice touch, since they combine surface area with seating while adding some color and pattern on a smaller scale than a sofa.
Drexel Heritage furniture is available from showrooms throughout the US. To find one, check their dealer locator.
