This company has a good amount of green cred, i.e. multiple third party certifications from the Organic Trade Association, Sustainable Furniture Council, Co-Op America, FSC, Oeko-tex, KRAV, SCS Gold, and GREENGUARD. And their sofas are pretty nice, too.
They use organic upholstery materials free of chemical fire retardants. Sofa and chair frames are made from FSC-certified or reclaimed wood with low-VOC finishes, and designs are hand-crafted by people who are paid fair wages. For all these reasons, Ekla appeared on Re-Nest's list of the 10 Best Green Upholstered Furniture Companies.
Emily Kroll founded the company in 2007 after more than a decade of experience in furniture design. She grew up in Southern California, where Ekla Home is based today.
Emily works with a few different dealers to sell her sofas including Reclaim in Northern California, EpoxyGreen in Venice, and Lost & Found in Los Angeles. Prices aren't listed online — you have to check with a a dealer store for specific items and pricing.
Ekla also maintains several to-the-trade relationships with designers and dealers. For more information about the collection and purchasing, check out Ekla online.
