Richard E. Diaz
Tucked away on a stretch of Sunset Boulevard between downtown and Echo Park is a gem of a store selling vintage mid century furniture and accessories. The tiny space is chock full of finds at reasonable prices and the turnover is quick so when you find something you like, grab it.Richard Diaz originally started this storefront in Venice a couple of years ago as part architecture firm, part showroom but found he was spending so much time going back and forth to the east side that it made sense to set up shop more centrally. Now in an area that is technically Echo Park but close to Angeleno Heights he has a small space that serves as a showroom and a small design studio for offering his services as a designer.
I loved his well edited selection of furniture and, especially, textiles: a couple of rugs and wall hangings had me drooling. Vintage Nelson bubble lamps and Nakashima style chairs sit side by side ice tea sets and danish modern high boys.
It's worth noting that Richard is friendly with set decorators around the city so if you're looking for a rental or just some help sprucing up your home, he's a great resource. And because he's something of a secret spot, stuff goes quickly so it pays to stop by frequently.
