Why do collectors and designers around the world continue to seek out vintage mid-century Scandinavian design (nearly 20 years after its rediscovery)? Quality, craftsmanship, simplicity and elegance are only a handful of the reasons. Great galleries, like Galerie Dansk in Paris make appreciating this collecting area a pleasure.
After New York, Paris has the best and broadest selection of 20th century design dealers. Galerie Dansk is boutique gallery focused on important Scandinavian design from the 40's onwards, with many iconic or collectible items.
A little treasure of a shop in the less-touristy part of the Marais, Galerie Dansk is a worthy destination for design fans. Often some of the best pieces of vintage European design don't come stateside, during the era of their creation or even through the secondary market.
Most of the gallery's inventory is priced at under 5,000 euro, and while not exactly cheap, their selection favors canonized designers and such pieces likely guarantee resale in the future. If you are interested in collecting or learning about designers like Wegner, Boerge Mogensen or Arne Jacobsen, visits to shops like Galerie Dansk are essential.
