We think some of the best evidence that the world is moving toward a more earth-friendly, sustainable existence is all of the new places available to buy eco-friendly home supplies. A recent addition to the Austin eco-friendly home and building supply store population is the new House+Earth, a place where you can find things for both the home you live in and the one you live on.
Okay, we didn't come up with that clever line, that's actually the motto of House+Earth--and they are ready to help anyone do just that. Here, you can find floors like Marmoleum, wool carpeting and more that come in natural materials sans harmful chemicals. Countertop options range from concrete, to recycled glass to reclaimed wood. They've got gorgeous glass tiles and stunning wall paper, and the glass is recycled and the wall paper made using organic dyes and paper. Even their insulation is green; you can find some made out of recycled blue jeans.
House+Earth also features a zero-VOC paint bar and you can fill empty housecleaning bottles with eco-friendly, biodegradable products at their refill station. You can peruse all their wares and resources in an open, clean and inviting showroom located on West 6th Street between Lamar and the Mopac. Owners Zach House and Scott Kuryak are sure to become the experts on green design and building in Austin, and can answer questions about how to make lasting, sustainable and eco-friendly changes in your home.
Get plenty of advice from the design staff on hand, and even work on DIY projects in their ample space. We love that they source local products as often as they can. And, as if that wasn't all enough, they also feature helpful workshops throughout the year. The next one is on July 22nd and will be a free introduction to American Clay earth plasters with Diarmuid Mulvihill, an American Clay certified applicator and artisan, who will provide an overview of the four different American Clay plasters, their application and their capabilities.
