Koromiko is an online design store that was founded in 2013 by Tracey George, a New Zealander now living in Dallas, Texas. The idea for the shop was to support and promote independent designers producing handmade, authentically sustainable craft and design objects. Their collection includes primarily American designers, along with a few carefully selected international artisans.

Name/Title: Tracey George / Founder

Launch date: August 2013

Inspiration for opening: I was looking for a place to shop where everything was handmade and there was transparency in where the goods came from. I wanted to feel connected to the objects I bought for my own home and as gifts for others. I wanted to find a shop that supported American and international artisans, that was a curated collection of inspired homewares and gifts. I couldn’t find anything like that locally, so decided to open my own shop!

Merchandise source: American and international artisans, makers and designers who produce their goods by hand in small batch runs.

Best selling item: Geometric coasters

Your favorite item: The pine needle baskets. I love weaving, and I love that these are made solely from pine needles, no thread or glue.

Favorite store (other than your own): I love to support local, neighborhood shops, but big box stores will always be there, so I really applaud West Elm for their recent $35 million commitment to supporting artisans and supply chain transparency.
