Bottle Nose Skateboard, $379 from Loyal Dean
Launched earlier this year, Madesmith is an online store featuring wares from both established and up-and-coming makers. Madesmith also interviews each artisan who is featured, so as you shop, you'll find pictures of their workspace, and read stories about what inspires and motivates them, and their thoughts on the city where they live and work.
Open/launch date: March 2013
Inspiration for opening: Telling the stories of modern-day makers practicing old-fashioned craftsmanship is a means of sharing Madesmith’s message that knowing where things come from and who makes them promotes thoughtful consumption and supports local communities, connecting artisans and designers with socially aware consumers. Madesmith commissions collaborations that result in exclusive limited-edition home goods, textiles, jewelry shoes, and accessories, made in America, that are often one-of-a-kind products. Their products are of high quality and made to last through every day usage.
