Missoni Bubble Lights and Seating
Yesterday we swung by the Domus Design Collection at Madison and 34th to preview the new Missoni Home showroom on the ground floor. The Italian design house is in the news a lot lately — they launched their signature home collection in Milan last month, and this month, they announced a collaboration with Target. We spoke with the Missoni family about the New York showroom and this year's collections.
Wanda Jelmini, niece of founders Rosita and Ottavio Missoni, was there with her cousin, Carlo Torrani, to open the new showroom — the first in New York to present the full home line in its own space. The 2011 collection combines the classic Missoni zigzag with large-scale florals, smaller checks, and solid stripes.
"Bubble" lights with zippered fabric shells hung from the ceiling, and the walls were covered in an embroidered over-the-top fabric that you wanted to run your fingers over. The signature Missoni Home poufs, pillows, bedding, and blankets also made an appearance alongside colorful rugs.
Missoni is one of several new showrooms opening in the remodeled Domus Design Center. To see the collection in person, visit the DDC at 181 Madison Avenue.
