A couple years ago, we wrote about buckwheat hull mattress toppers from Open Your Eyes Bedding, which are a great natural solution for neck and back pain. Now, the company has expanded its line to include DIY (no-sew!) mattress kits using the same environmentally friendly filling.
You can choose from the Twist DIY Mattress Kit in cotton canvas or soft woven cotton, or the Twist Easy DIY Mattress Kit, which features a different pattern. Both kits come with e-book instructions and a yardage of fabric covering that you'll fill, tie, and twist to form your mattress — all the way up to a king size! (Buckwheat and millet hulls are sold separately and are available from the site).
For the ambitious DIYer with a sewing machine, you can even buy the instructions and templates to make a mattress using your own materials and filling.

We just wanted to add that we have a NEW kit coming out soon which is a no sew, layered kit. I designed this kit to help those on a budget (you can order one layer at a time) and folks who want a custom mattress size.
A toddler mattress can become a Twin size mattress, which can then become a section of a Full and up to a King size mattress! Just imagine how many mattresses we can save from landfills each year. To dispose of your DIY mattress, simply use it in your garden as mulch.
