Manchester, New Hampshire
Antique, yellow painted tansu.
OPUS (Other People's Unique Stuff) opened its doors a few years ago on Manchester's West Side in the run down strip between South Main and Granite Streets. The consignment shop has been steadily growing a following and the waiting list to consign is now over 6 months long. They operate a separate studio where they re-paint much of the furniture they sell. One of their specialty seems to be painting occasional tables milky blue or milky verdant green.
They carry a lot of everything-- jewelry, clothing, furniture, toiletries-- and each day you visit the store looks different than the last. They constantly rotate and integrate new items from their massive inventory. The pricing is tiered and reduces over time as an incentive for the customer to buy.
It's one of those places that you have to circle through several times because they have stuff on stuff on stuff and it's difficult to see everything in one pass. They are gearing up for the holiday season now and will be filling the space with more goodies, so if you are in the area a visit is certainly worthwhile.
I dropped by a few Saturdays ago and as always found a few gems which are pictured here. Their consistent staff is super enthusiastic and fun and will help answer any questions you may have.
