If you're in the market to purchase drought-friendly plants, I'm sure the last place you'd think to look would be the zoo. But that's in fact where the Palo Verde Garden Center is located! Smack dab inside The Living Desert animal park, in Palm Spring/Palm Desert. During my last trip to the fabulous Palm Springs, I thought to spend a little time hanging with the real "locals", so I visited the animal park. You can imagine my surprise to find an entire nursery located inside.
They have a huge selection of succulents, native flowers and shrubs. They also have fountains, pots, and other garden accessories. It makes sense, since many of these plants are used in much of the exhibits and shelters around the park, why not make them available to the public? In addition to plants, they also have a great demonstration garden that can give you further inspiration to take back to your own home. Next time you're in the area, definitely check it out! All proceeds go to help the Living Desert and its conservation efforts.
