From the beginning, our aim has been to create a garden shop unlike any other in the city. Once inside, you’ll find an eclectic mix, from the distinctly modern — terrariums, specimen house plants and work by local artists — to the down-home — chicken keeping supplies, soil amendments, garden tools and more.
Pistils Nursery is a fabulous resource for your sustainable gardening, chicken keeping and terrarium needs. A visit to their quaint North Portland shop enables you to envision a simpler, greener life for yourself no matter how urban your environment.
This shop has more to offer than many garden supply stores. Throughout the year they offer workshops in urban chicken keeping, bee keeping, garden design, terrariums, worm composting and vegetable gardening.
During a stroll around the nursery you will meet several resident chickens as you peruse their unique selection of ornamental and edible plants. Inside the shop you will find baby chicks (yep!) and lots of indoor plants, containers and terrarium building supplies.
The knowledgeable staff will help you find just what you are looking for. I witnessed them help 2 families get set up with their first chickens in the short time I was there.
As more and more of us are intrigued by the idea of the urban homestead, it is great that there are places like this to help show the way. For those of us not quite ready to take the plunge, we can pick up a sweet little air plant and call it a day!
