Amy Cooper opened Plum Goods on State Street just last October, spotlighting various eco-chic products and fair trade home goods and gifts. With her background in copyrighting, Amy was inspired by fun and creative copy and always imagined owning a store front. Just last June she began planning this dream and by October she opened her doors to Santa Barbara’s main shopping district.
With the incredible help and input of her visual director Fabian Ojeda — who acts as the merchandise and creative guru for Plum — they bring forth “beautiful things made with integrity”. Plum features artists who need a venue and she gives them great exposure online as well. Currently Plum Goods carries jewelry by Fabian & Felipe, paintings by Matti Berglund, Krzysztof Wasko, and Ginny Speirs. Various home goods are offered by local artists such as Medera Del Mar (the driftwood sunburst mirror).
Together Amy and Fabian present a store front that is not only welcoming and warm, but they offer an idea that is one of necessity and desire. Amy explains that the quote by John Muir, sums it up perfectly — “Everybody needs beauty as well as bread…”
