Ponoko: Custom Laser Cutting

Ponoko: Custom Laser Cutting

We've written before about Ponoko, an online service for custom laser cutting, but we recently used it ourselves to make a set of holiday ornaments and couldn't have been happier with the result. Creating original products requires some computer expertise, but even if that isn't your cup of tea, the site is worth browsing just to see (or buy) pre-designed products.

If you know your way around Adobe Illustrator, you can upload your designs to Ponoko, chose from materials such as cardboard, felt, wood, and acrylic in a variety of colors. The website also hosts a marketplace where the less computer saavy can find free plans or buy plans or products from other designers. We picked a few that we thought were worth a second glance:

2. Digits Mini Calendar by Dave Rollins, $35
3. Gun Rack Mail Organizer by stufingerhut, $150
4. Froggystyle Clock by Random Walk Design Lab, $120
5. Build-it Desk Plant by LVDesigns, $35
