It's been one year since Post 27 opened its doors on Grand Avenue, and its increasing popularity and solid place on the interiors food chain of Chicago confirms that this shop was no shortlived idea. Although we've been slow on full coverage and on the tails of many other reviews
, we now see what a year can do for a spot so consistently talked about among our readers
and on the streets (we really do hear people singing its praises often)...
On our recent visit to the shop, we caught the current Ottomania show (on display through May 24th), as well as a pure understanding of what shopkeepers Angela Finney and Barkley Hoffman are going for: a shop with pieces and arrangements that make the showroom comparable to a painting. Balance, beauty, and composition find a home here, and Finney and Hoffman are constantly changing things up according to their vision and customers' happy demands.
By not subscribing to a single era or an overly reined-in aesthetic, what this husband and wife team sell are vintage pieces that inspire, not simply those that have a must-have name attached (though they don't shy away from the best Herman Millers out there either). For new wares, you'll find the quirky alongside the classic, with artists and designers represented both locally and a bit more far reaching (from Brooklyn, North Carolina, etc.); many new designs are made from pre-loved materials, like the leather patchwork pillows and recycled glass candle holders.
To top off the intrigue, Finney and Hoffman both re-work vintage pieces whether in need of new hardware, new upholstery, or a simple clean up and tweak. A new line called "in house" includes pieces created by Finney and Hoffman themselves (see hanging pendant lamps and a test tube table lamp above and in our slideshow).
Our highly anticipated visit proved what others have been saying all along:
The selection is ever-changing and ever-engaging.
The owners have a lot to say about whatever you might want to know.
The prices make sense.
Scour our slideshow, peruse online, and stop in the large (but not overwhelming) showroom for a visit. But most of all, enjoy!
