P-sling New York takes baby slings to another level. . We came across this store by accident while showing someone around Soho and had to take a peek inside.

Much like its main product, the inside of P-sling New York feels simple, refined, and elegant. We unfolded some cute onesies, viewed a precious mom and daughter jewlery collection, and picked up a beautiful silver rattle that produced the most enchanting chiming sound. But P-sling specializes in- you guessed it, slings. Yasukazu Konno asked his wife to design their baby sling, envisioning fabrics that would make mother and baby "as one". Based in Tokyo, P-sling opened in New York in 2005. There are over 200 slings to choose from.

The store is clear that their concept is about baby and parent bonding rather than just convenience. More than just carrying baby, these slings are "flexible clothing for wearing baby" according to their website. For such a simple looking product, there is actually quite a bit of craftsmanship behind the fabric weaving and dying.

Only the finest cotton and linen are used and they are hand dyed in factories in Kyoto where kimonos have been dyed for years. As a result of their techiques, the fabric is breathable in warm weather, and although it can carry up to 39 pounds, weighs only 10.59 ounces.

You can carry your baby with confidence. P-sling won The National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval in Spring of 2006 and all of their materials undergo rigorous inspections. We were most impressed with the fact that each sling is handsewn by one craftsman in Japan from beginning to end.

Of course, you can't really talk about slings without "attachment parenting" coming up. And P-slings NY does have a section about it on their website. Regardless of your philosophy, these seem like a worthwhile investment.
