Alongside Vitsoe, ISS, and Elfa Shelving, there's another giant of modular storage that we haven't yet included in our store directory. Rakks' system is based around wall-mounted standards or pole supports that can be configured with shelf brackets. Unlike less expensive systems, Rakks shelving has no visible hardware — a detail that makes it attractive to architects.

Owned by the Rangine Corporation, Rakks is based out of Needham, Massachusetts. For forty years, they've worked with architects and designers to create systems for offices, museums, and retail stores, but they also do direct sales, and they've got a webshop where anyone can purchase components online.

A word of warning: the webshop isn't easy to navigate, probably due to Rakks' tendency to market more to commercial clients. While there are a few pre-configured systems available, most are sold by component and prices aren't listed online. There are, however, customer service personnel on-call who can answer questions over the phone. Prices start around $15 per modular component and go up to $70 for more expensive pieces.
