Glasgow, Scotland and Online
An exclusive collection of clothes, toys, accessories and homewares for stylish kiddos
A vintage lover since forever, I started Rowdy Roddy after moving to be with my husband from San Francisco, California to Glasgow, Scotland.
Soon after the move, our son Roddy was born. I’d started collecting vintage baby clothes while I was pregnant (any excuse, right?), and ended up with more than I ever expected. Roddy’s dad is in the music business and away a lot, and I didn’t know many people here in the UK yet. So I started selling my collection at vintage and craft fairs with Roddy in tow….we had such a great time that I decided to find Rowdy Roddy Vintage a permanent home!
Rowdy Roddy Vintage has gone from strength to strength since then. We’ve opened our online shop, met loads of amazing mums, dads, and babies at our Rowdy Roddy classes and events, and have been featured in the press and some great blogs…. I’ve even been short-listed for a Mumpreneur UK Best Green Business award! We have happy customers all over the world, and love connecting with other mas and pas thanks to the joys of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
I’d definitely describe my job as a labour of love. My search for the very best vintage baby clothes takes me to all four corners of the world – who needs souvenirs when you can bring back a suitcase full of clothes?
Tucked away on a leafy side street in Glasgow's west end, Rowdy Roddy Vintage offers an exclusive collection of clothes, toys, accessories and homewares for stylish kiddos! Their range includes beautiful and unique vintage finds and up-and-coming independent brands. If you’re looking for something unique and stylish for the little ones in your life, this is the place - arguably the coolest and friendliest spot in town.
Name/Title: Jolyne Colburn Owner/Director of Rowdy Roddy Vintage
Launch date: Firstly in 2011, then moved to a bigger location 2013.
Inspiration for opening: Being a graphic designer from San Francisco, the move to Glasgow when I was 7 months pregnant wasn’t has hard as you would think. However, always having been a lover of vintage and design, I felt there was a lack of interesting clothes to buy for Roddy. I wanted something different. So the collection began. We started with vintage then grew to incorporate locally handmade items and special designers.
Merchandise source: Some of my favourite places are my secret vintage treasure troves from around the world!
But our curated collection of children designer clothes includes: Mini Rodini, Soft Gallery, Lapin and Me, Donna Wilson, Noe Zoe, Beau Loves, Indikidual, Mini Melissa, and Little Legs Baby Kilts.
Best selling item: I would say that we set ourselves apart with our vintage collection, so that is the most popular. Each item is pretty much one of a kind, so your little one can be very unique. Every piece is carefully inspected to ensure you only receive the best!
Your favorite item: We have this 2 piece suit made in Paris that is AMAZING. I hide it in the back because I am so attached to it. However, it is listed online, so someone might just snatch it up while I’m not looking.
Favorite store (other than your own): Located back home in the Bay Area of California, Mind Eye Vintage is a must stop for this mama! They carefully select each vintage item and are release them in collections. Everything is gorgeous and you won't find synthetic fabrics anywhere near this place.
