South by Southwest, the annual music, film and interactive festival, is going on this week in Austin, and while exploring around the South First Street area, we came across a new addition to the South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery, a grouping of tasty food trailers. Thinking they only offered dessert, we were quite delighted to learn that the La-Dee-Dah trailer features a gorgeous shop full of fun gifts and the botanical designs of LD Design...

If you are curious as to how a gift shop and treat stand can fit into one vintage airstream trailer, this really is the place for you to investigate. La-Dee-Dah features a dizzying menu of local Austin treats like smores (cooked over a real campfire next to the trailer), brownies, coffee and nuts, as well as a newstand that sells items like newspapers, batteries and even mints.

What really interested us was the gift shop in the airstream. The trailer is the storefront of LD Design, which shows off the botanical designs of local artist Loren Dolinsky, known for her whimsical and sustainable tabletop organic sculptures. The shop in this 1964 airstream also features things Loren loves, like cards and other neat gifts, as well as her popular feather headbands which can be seen adorning the heads of Austin residents and tourists.

For more information about how a retail store and treat shop can possibly fit inside an airstream trailer, visit the website www.austintreat.com. To see more of Loren's botanical designs, visit the LD Design website.

What do you think about a gift shop in an airstream? Too claustrophobic or a neat idea? Let us know!
