You can go to thrift stores, auctions and estate sales until you are blue in the face, but if you want to find the best when it comes to crazy and cool finds at ridiculously reasonable prices, then you need to visit Weird Stuff Antiques in Kansas City, Missouri. Giant carrot? Check. Big Bird statue? There are 2! Antique frames, old signage, creepy animatronic monkey? Check!
Weird stuff Antiques is a 4 part business. For starters they have an antique car lot outside called Owl Motors and an orange fur covered 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood on the street to entice you in. That's right…fur covered — did I mention it has horns on the front too? The top floor which houses cool vintage furniture finds and prop rental supplies is rentable for parties and events. You can see it on their website (always bring a spare camera battery Sarah — always).
The main floor is packed…literally with cool stuff that's been salvaged from old buildings before demolition to all sorts of other great finds (like 400 bicycles). Now aside from being packed to the gills with the best stuff in KC (just trust me), it's also affordable. Usually when you find a cool vintage shop, you can plan on spending $100 or more on any given item. Most things in this shop are far below that, no matter how cool or how old they are. There's no hipsters upselling you their garage sale finds, just one cool guy (Hi Terry!) who has tons of stories to tell and wants his cool stuff to be your cool stuff so other people can enjoy it the same way he has. Did I mention they're willing to ship?
You can hit up their website to find them on Facebook, Twitter and more to keep tabs on fresh finds coming into the store or swing by and check them out every Saturday from 12pm-5pm. If BBQ alone wasn't enough to bring you to the Kansas City metro, this place is — plus it's literally right off the highway in case you're just passing through!
