Antique Mecca. Each Wednesday we are featuring a resource that is to the trade only, meaning you gotta go get one of dem interior decorator's.... but we believe that it can be worth it.
We recieved Tara Shaw's mailings starting two years ago, and quickly got the message that she had an irrepressable nature. Not used to thinking small, she has developed a large importing operation in New Orleans, where she assembles a vast warehouse full of French, Italian and Scandinavian furniture for sales a number of times a year. It is all very ornate, rustic stuff.
Ms. Shaw must have a large fishing boat that she uses to troll through the attics and backrooms of European estates, which allows her to catch so much furniture up in her net. And these are not typical retail pieces. Photos on her website reveal furniture that still looks shocked that it has just gotten off a plan in Louisiana.
Billed as furniture, art and architecturals, a few of her own categories read like this:
To buy any of this stuff, you have to visit Tara Shaw's world and book a flight to New Orleans, but once you are in, I reckon a lot of business can be done over the phone. Her website offers viewing of part of her stock (there's a password, but she'll give it to you), and visits can be made at the Camp Street warehouse from 10-5pm, Thurs through Sat. MGR
