Eric Carle's books need no introduction as they have been a favorite of young children for several generations. We've been wanting to round out our family's collection a bit, but have noticed that our local bookstores tend to carry only the most popular titles. So we went online and found the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art Shop where we found a lot more than just books and we even found a lot more than just Eric Carle.
Our first stop was the Eric Carle book section where we found titles we'd never even heard of before as well as two bilingual books (English/Spanish) which we know some of our friends will want to purchase. Many of Carle's beloved illustrations have been carried over onto toys, tableware, bath products, fabric, blankets, carpets, clocks, party goods and more (hundreds of products).
Below are links to a few of our favorites:
• Caterpillar Wood Pull Toy ($18)
• Bathtub Squirt Toys ($10, set of 5)
• Very Hungry Caterpillar Party Line (we've shown just a few here)
• Brown Bear Bulletin Board Set ($14)
• Books by Eric Carle
The museum is not just about promoting Carle, but children's books and illustrators in general. You'll find a selection of children's books, biographies, lithographs and posters by and about other notable illustrators. Profits support the Museum mission of art appreciation and early literacy and we're putting the museum, located in Amherst, MA on our list places to visit with our son.
