Unto This Last: Furniture Workshops in London

It's so rare to find a working workshop in big cities these days, that we were delighted to discover "Unto this Last". They offer the convenience of the local craftsman workshop at mass-production prices and the wonderful opportunity to see the manufacturing process in action. They design along a single principle — "less dependence on heavy industrial processes, more use of innovative digital tools adapted to the small workshop". Everything you buy from "Unto This Last" is made at the back of their shop, on a digital router and there's only a big window separating customer from the craftsman.

The items are beautiful and simple made from special birch ply composite throughout. Having no stock, they can offer you more than 100 product lines from a very small location, adding finish and size options, they have a growing catalog of more than 2000 products to choose from. Unto This Last was inspired by the title of a book written in 1860 by John Ruskin, he advocated a return to the local craftsman workshops, having a few doubts about the human cost of the Industrial Revolution. We love this concept and can't what to see what they have in store for 2010! For more information see: Unto This Last
