A new collection of rugs by artist and interior designer Marcia Weese were shown at ICFF last week. Organic forms and high-end craftmanship meet in this collection. The Prairie Collection is made up of contemporary designs based on nature. They are hand knotted 100% Tibetan wool with silk accents at 100 knots per square inch. The names are indicative of the inspiration: grain, flora, root, pool, stem. The colors used are rich and deep, with the line-drawing-like patterns in a contrasting tone. Marcia Weese grew up in Chicago, daughter of modernist architect Harry Weese and designer Kitty Baldwin Weese. She has been doing interiors for over 20 years - photos of projects are on her site, along with her artwork. Pricing is listed at $91. per square foot, placing these firmly in the luxury rug arena. Heirloom quality combined with the strong colors and simplicity of the patterns just might ensure them a place as other furnishings come and go. See the complete collection here. Room views and color swatches are also online.
