Glass top coffee tables are a perfect place to showcase your coffee table books and collections without sacrificing precious table top space. Made of nice materials like tempered glass, iron or wood, these gallery coffee tables make a nice centerpiece for your living room.
Don't think of glass top coffee tables as storage, think them as display, with contents you want to show rather than clutter you need to hide. If storage is what you need, get a shelfed table with a solid wood or metal top to hide your belongings. If you want the best of both worlds, check out the coffee table in Photo 4.

So I have a coffee table which is made of a sort of slab of glass that rests on a wooden base, and I need thoughts on upgrading/fixing it. It's super old and trashy (I Craigslisted it for free as a package deal with a $30 tv) but the shape works really well in my living room, I'm kind of attached to it, and I don't necessarily have the budget for a new table. However, the edges of the glass top are wrapped in some kind of veneer or laminate that's peeling off and looks super icky, and I need to address this in some way. I've thought about scraping it off and replacing with contact paper or something, but I think that would look really crappy, and I'm worried that if I just scrape it off entirely and leave it, I'll bump into the table even more than I normally do because it won't have that visual marker. Suggestions?? Would it be difficult to purchase/reapply a similar wood veneer?
HANC: Take it all off and use paint specifically for glass and paint the edges and corners.
I like glass tables..both my end tables in the L/R are glass as well as one in my bedrooms. Give the room a much more open feel. Downside, is that they are not forgiving; you almost need to dust daily but I'll still take them over wooden tables.
I love the look of a glass top table, but we had a coffee table in my old apartment and it was always dusty. I felt like I was just constantly cleaning it. And now that I have a cat forget it.
I like the look of glass, but if you have pets, you will find that you are constantly wiping off paw prints and smudges.
The gallery coffee table is real nice. It would make me consider getting one. Currently my couch is right next to my window and I use the ledge for books, coffee and such.
Keep the glass,following LYONSTILL suggestion.
Let's think about the dust showing on the glass.yes it's there.....but that amount is also everywhere else in the room. dust doesn't gravitate to the glass,it just shows itself easier.
You need a device that will remove the dust. I have several in my house and it is amazing how much dust it collects ...We would be breathing More dust if we did not have the filtration system.
There are several on the market, so read up on them, before you buy. They are portable so they can go with you on vacation too.We have one that makes more noise so it's in less used room.
They are not hard to clean... Just another thing to put on the to do list. So what? It is called preventative maitiance for our health and the family will breath a lot better. Better get use to PM, I feel that is going to be a major question ask from the Insurance companies. RAA
on the first one.. what do you do if you want to look at the book or magazine you have in there? make everyone take their coffeecups off so you can lift up the glass?
