Shutterfly By Design

Get ready to go beyond the book.  Shutterfly, perhaps best known for their ubiquitous photo book, has teamed up with celebrities Nigel Barker, Cat Cora and Heidi Klum to launch the new Shutterfly By Design campaign.  It’s a collection of products for every room of the house and, like everything Shutterfly, they’re all ready to be personalized.

The event space was full of décor pieces that, upon closer inspection, all had an unexpected twist. From the printed “cowhide” rug to the tabletop made from acrylic blocks with a wood grain design, Shutterfly incorporated more than simple snapshots into these accents.

Not to say that personal snapshots don’t make great décor. Nigel Barker told me how decorating with his own photography helps him make those images part of everyday life rather than a static memory.  For example, he showed me a small bedside tray printed with a photo from his honeymoon, 15 years ago.  He’s holding the camera at arm’s length to capture an underwater kiss. “The original selfie,” he called it.

Heidi Klum decorated her space with her children’s drawings, stretched on canvas and also printed on pillows and mugs, along with pieces from her Truly Scrumptious collection for Babies “R” Us. Cat Cora’s kitchen was full of personalized touches like magnets, placemats and artwork because, as she pointed out, “We all end up in the kitchen anyway.”
