When it comes to interiors, we all have our weaknesses, and good lighting is mine (okay, one of mine). Carefully applied, the right lighting can elevate any space, making it seem bigger, more welcoming, cleaner, more modern, more expensive — you name it, good lighting can probably do it. Similarly, poorly planned lighting can often let down an otherwise beautiful room.
I've found that the best way to ensure your lighting falls on the right side of that equation is to plan it early, and keep it simple. The simple, chic lighting rounded up here is neither aggressively modern nor stuck in the past; it's just there, lookin' good and doing its job.

Sprout Side Table
With the exception of, I guess, three examples we don't actually see the illuminating aspects of the lighting. I can't begin to know how functional these examples are because nature seems to be doing the heavy lifting. Natural lighting is, of course, great for interior photography, but I wonder how many of these fixtures I would applaud given some familiarity with their functionality. As aesthetic pieces none of them seems to be impressively original.
Arthistorian, that's a great point, and one that occurred to me while I was collecting these images. A great photo of a lighting fixture almost invariably isn't showing that fixture in use, so it is difficult to see just how effective the fixtures are, I suppose (though I can vouch for four of the above, which I've seen in the flesh!).
As for originality, I wasn't really going for that here, just simple and chic shapes. I'll be rounding up other lighting styles later in the month, so perhaps there'll be something more unique there!
