Sometimes toys with too many details can overwhelm a young toddler. Gina of Bright and Blithe blog understands this and created a simple dollhouse for her daughter. Jump below to see how she did it for $5.

This cute dollhouse is made from an unfinished CD-holder that Gina purchased from Michael's for $5! She added her own details like the red paint and she Mod Podged some scrapbook paper onto the "floors." Simple, easy and inexpensive. For more details, check out Bright and Blithe blog.

Shaw's Original Fir...
The incomparable Amy Karol did it years ago. It's a bummer when a blog as big as Ohdeedoh features someone who has ripped something off of someone else. :(

aw don't get so down. i doubt the blogger was aware that it had been done a few years ago. As for the original blogger who used the idea, they certainly need to be posting where they got the ideas from!!
I remember seeing on Amy Karol's blog way back when too. But, it's a CD holder that looks like a dollhouse...not too big of a stretch to think that several crafty bloggers might have the same (good!) idea.

cutey
Mrs. Karol and I actually had a friendly exchange about this very topic last night. I had never seen her version until makakona was kind enough to bring it to my attention. She assured me no harm done and we had a good laugh over the similarities. We both bought a pre-made item from a craft store shaped like a house and painted it for our kids...along with probably about a zillion other moms in America.
amazing job. two bright people could have had the same idea in relation to the same thing. a red roof is fairly standard house protocol :) So is a striped'rug'. and it isn't like someone else built it.
i love this idea, this house, and the Mrs. Karol house as well.
superb job, folks!
Yep, I have this same house purchased at Michael's and did the same thing with it. Pre-Amy Karol (of whom I am a fan. When I saw her's I said, "Hey cool, we both had that idea!" I didn't email her all pissed off that she stole my idea...that I got...from Michael's. I don't think that's patented! That's not to downplay the cuteness of it at all, it's awesome, but geez, makakona, that's hardly a "rip-off." It turned out super cute, Gina!
A wonderful site - probably the best ever - for doll house inspiration -100s of examples from throughout the decades and from around the world - fantastic!

Took something shaped like a dollhouse... painted it and made it a dollhouse...
Just because someone else did it doesn't make it a rip off, I'm sure a LOT of people have done the exact.same.thing with that exact same CD holder
