While doing the dishes this past week, we realized with a little embarrassment what a ridiculous amount of cups we were washing up for the day. A glass from the bedroom, a glass from the living room, a couple from the kitchen... and all just for two people. And here we were wasting all this water to wash these multiple glasses when we could have just used one
each for the whole day. So, here's an idea to cut down on wasted water (and time) washing dishes: pick a glass in the morning, mark it as yours, and use the same one all day...
In her book Eco-Friendly Families
, Helen Coronato recommends sticking a clothespin on your glass marked with your name. This is a great solution for people with kids. Otherwise, when you're finished with the glass, put it in a predetermined location (next to the sink, on the counter by the toaster, etc) so that you'll know where to find it when you need it next, and you won't have to go searching around your house for it. It's an easy and simple way to leave a lighter footprint.
