We spotted this simple but festive tablescape and had to share with Apartment Therapy readers. The supplies are inexpensive (and we're betting you already have them at home).
We love the minimalist green and white color combo--which reads festive but still feels chic and modern. Theresa follows a project from Martha Stewart on how to make the paper trees (but we're still trying to figure out how she crafted the layered paper trees in picture #3). White candles and tablecloth complete the serene and cozy look (and don't forget to check out Theresa's full blog post here describing the rest of the event).

all that paper and all those lit candles make me so nervous. I'd set a fire before the first course,I'm sure.
Cute. But I want to know what percentage of people actually do stuff like this. If I went to someone's house for dinner and there was an apple with a tree stuck in it on my plate, I seriously wouldn't know what to do with myself. Do I start eating the apple? Stick the tree in my lapel? What?
(On the other hand, maybe it's these kinds of questions that should prevent me from going out in public in the first place.)
The white paper 'trees' look more like pagodas or stacked parasols to me, which makes them useful for any kind of occasion.
Unabridged, I completely agree. I wouldn't know what to do with my apple-paper tree.
I think the apples--with their bright green hue--makes a striking statement on their own, without the paper "trees." In fact, the paper ornaments look a wee-bit silly. As for wondering what to do with the apples, perhaps the host or hostess may use the apples in a dessert. Perhaps a tart tartine or a good ol' fashioned apple crumble. The green apples, then, may be used as a tasty indication of what's to come.
i like the ones made of newspaper much better. they're probably pretty easy, just need to figure out how to make the stand. any suggestions?
Well, too bad you don't like my white trees! My family loved those and they weren't supposed to do anyting with them. They were just there to look nice.
However I actually wanted to tell you about the newspaper trees (which I actually did not like that much). I found this idea also on the Martha site (here. I used some clay which hardened after a few hours and put a wooden stick in the middle of it.
