Actually, and I'm not usually a germophobe, but automatic faucets and soap dispensers make a lot of sense to me.

Got the technology, why not use it? I always seem to use papertowels (or my foot in limited situations-- gymnastics has helped me with that one!) to maneuver around a public loo. I have witnessed one too many people *not* wash their hands on their way out the door! It's the ewww factor for me -- I hate to touch *anything* in that public space!!!
It makes sense to put one in the kitchen to prevent cross contamination when handling raw meats and eggs and whatnot.
I owned one 2 years ago from sharper image and I loved it. Unfortunately, It didn't love me. One morning I woke up and soap was every where. I miss it so much but it was returned. :(
