Earlier this week we brought you Splashy Kitchen Backsplashes. Now let's take a look at some quieter, softer options that still scream well-designed.
For some kitchen lovers these may seem boring compared to bolder, brighter tiles. Others might find calmness and cleanliness inside these walls. But there's a saying, "every pot has its' lid." And perhaps every homeowner has their backsplash…or something like that.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I really think white subway tile can't be beat for kitchens and bathrooms. Simple, classic, and timeless.
i'm such a SUCKER for some subway tile! the blue one is so sweet but i love the idea of white on white! i would totally do ours that nice turquoise blue/ocean blue...but it would totally clash! (we have blue/grey walls...see here: http://www.casacullen.com/2009/12/rwd-home-kitchen-redesign-before-and-after.html)
i am also TOTALLY digging the idea of decals/wallpaper so that has me thinking about an option for a backsplash! bottom line...can someone just MAKE the decision for us, ha! we're been avoiding cause we can't decide...tiny glass tiles? white subway? something dramatic! we'll get there!
cheers and great images

#1 is so pretty, loved it when i first saw it in Country Living!
I love all the apron-front sinks I'm seeing recently. I want one so badly.
I really like the second one - so simple and so cheerful with the yellow wall and the round edge.
Don't like 6 and 7 though, remind me too much if "The Wall"...
When will you show the happy medium backsplashes? These are boring. The others were bewildering. I want something simple but colorful, and subway tile is zzzzz-town to me.
any opinions on stainless steel tiles for a backsplash?
I love the last one! I've had it in my inspiration file for awhile. #5 looks amazing in that kitchen.
