I have always been fascinated by this, great photos. I would love to tour one and see the inside.
I was thrilled when this one went up in my neighborhood, really one does not always need width. I think when you have high ceilings it makes up for the square footage.

Wait... the first house is in Brazil right? This is the one in L.A.

Hmmmm.I'd rather sleep in my car.
This one is in Bratislava, Slovakia: http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/21908537.jpg
It was built in the 18th century.
Many years ago in Manhattan, taxes was based on how wide your house/building was. Therefore, a 10' wide townhouse would pay less tax than a 20', even if the overall square footage was the same.
Numbers 2, 3, 8 & 9 do not look that skinny to me. Maybe I've been living in an NYC apartment too long...
For sheer entertainment, AT should do a post on spite houses! http://www.boingboing.net/2009/12/17/spite-houses-built-t.html

The smallest house in Britain is in Conwy, North Wales. It's a 1 up-1 down. It' not lived in anymore but was up until 1900 and the family of the last occupant still owns it today. Scroll down the page for pic and info.

Not exactly a house but still people actually live in it: the greek monastery of Chozoviotissa is about 5m wide!

There is a house that I think is at most 10 feet wide in downtown L.A., near USC, on Estrella. You can see it here:

Look at this, it´s in Valencia, Spain. Known as "the meter", it was this way until 2007, when it was restored and annexed to the building on the right.
