Some of our favorite bedrooms only have about 18-24" on either side of the bed. That makes about 8' to 9' of width for a bedroom with a queen size bed, which is pretty darn small. But check out how great a compact bedroom can be!
Whether you choose to go soft and monotone (as in the first pic) or cozy and bold (as in the fourth), a small bedroom can surprise even the stiffest holdouts as being comfortable and "just enough".

Nomade Express Slee...
Anyone know where I can get the curtains in the first photo? Thanks!
I LOVE my small bedroom, it is 6x11. I had to build my bed and get a short mattress to fit on the 6 foot wall, but it fits me just perfect. Now I might have a problem if I find myself a tall man ;)
lol Our bedroom is 7 1/2' x 9 1/2' feet. It's tight. I'd kill to have as much space as a couple of these rooms do. :)
The green & purple rooms I've seen featured on here before and already ranked #s 1 & 2 respectively as 2 of my favorite bedrooms of all time. In fact, I fell so in love with both rooms I'm using similar color schemes to repaint 2 rooms as I type this.
The first pic ranks up pretty high in my favorites now too, it's so calm and peaceful. The 6th pic nags my OCD too much, just knowing that there's no viable way to open the drawers on that beautiful dresser =( You can go small and still be functional.
The 8th pic... I'm really sorry to say this but that particular light next to the bed, plus the overall drama of the room kind of screams porn set to me. I'm sorry!
Those curtains look like something from West Elm.
First photo curtains look like Ikea.
Love the cozy bedrooms.
Only problem... I can totally see how they can make a smaller bedroom look and feel awesome, but what about storage for clothes? Another room?
@Tenthmile -
You're watching some classy porn!
@Pi- the window cover fabric is Kochi Lapis from John Robshaw.

@ Tenthmile and OliveCat
Haha...that light would be perfect for some home movies, but I agree it'd be a lot classier than any porn I've seen.
My bed room is 9x9 (9x11) including the closet and I love the coziness. I'm actually painting the window wall and ceiling black this weekend (we'll see if it lasts til next weekend). I'm hoping for cozy and sleep inducing, but we'll see.
Pureevil - I'm thinking of doing the same with my bedroom but it scares me :) Would love to see some pictures when it's done.
I thought they looked like John Robshaw, IKEA does have some great and white ones smaller print but the grey is paler, 54"wide. West Elm has some grey and white curtains but they are not the clean grey like the ones above more green in the grey. The problem I find with West Elm's curtains they are all 48" wide ok if you have a small window even a pair looks like a sheet hanging, notice in all their photos they are open.
I want that last room so bad. I could do it.
My goodness I love a tiny bedroom.
Mine is a little challenging, though...the room itself is about 8'x10', with four (four!) doors taking up wall space. To add to the difficulty, I'm 6' tall and my partner is 6'4", so we have a 6'x7' California king bed.
None of the doors can be blocked, so that leaves us with two walls we can place the bed against. To maximize the feeling of space, we have just the mattress on the floor (we were going to rig a tiny platform, but the thought of catching toes on wood slats really doesn't appeal to me).
If I could cram the mattress up against the closet door, that might help, but it would be annoying to walk across the bed every time I wanted to get to the closet. Help?
Very timely for me; I'll soon be moving my king size bed into a 10x11 room and I'm torturing myself about whether or not to put the bed against the wall on one side, since it's just me sleeping there.
Love Love Love the first one. Im a sucker for picture collages though! I never would think to completely wallpaper a small space like the black and white one, but I think the simplicity of everything else makes it work.
We live in a tiny bedroom too. It's about 11x10 or something close to that. Did I tell you we have a California King bed in there. Is that even possible? It's kind of ridiculous. We are saving up for a Queen so, that should make living in a tiny bedroom more comfortable.

It makes me hope for a smaller bedroom in the next move.
how ironic! i did a post similar to this just yesterday!

i <3 small spaces!
Yikes - number 6 is small AND crammed with lots of furniture.
Our bedroom is tiny and I love having a small bedroom.
We fit a queen size bed, with 4 feet at the foot and 3 feet on the one side of the bed. I have the bed against the wall as our options were to awkwardly block the lower part of an off center window, or not to be able to open the closets. Fortunately we have 2 closets in there so no need for a dresser.
Our bedroom is 12x12, but it has no closets, so one entire wall is lined with IKEA PAX wardrobes, cutting the floor space to about 12x10. When we first moved in, it felt very claustrophobic to me, but now that I'm used to it I really like it. It's very cozy.
I think #2 is a great example of how colorful you can make some loft apartments that have fewer windows but still have interesting walls.

I like bedrooms #1 and 4. My bedroom is small. I picked the smaller out of two rooms. It feels more cocoon-like and it's very nice to be in when it's raining or stormy. It feels protective. I painted it a dark chocolate brown, which adds to the coziness.
@hygebeorht, Would it help to remove any of those doors? replace any doors with smaller profile ones, e.g., accordion, bi-fold, curtain? get a bed that can be compacted when not in use, e.g., sofa bed, futon, Murphy bed?
@Sleek1, Check http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/roundup/six-stylish-storage-beds-roundup-123751
all so lovely. i especially like the 6th room. the scale models of buildings got me.
i think the oscar room (8th) has a lot of character...
@Sleek1, Well, I have to store most of our clothes elsewhere. My wardrobe's in the guestroom, and his job wardrobe of wools and silks is in the office closet since I'm allergic to them. On the up side, in a small bedroom I can't fit in stuff that's best put elsewhere.
these are so cozy! i love that last one. i wish i even had a bedroom....just a super small studio. can AT do more with studios?
@perfidia: I've had to put a queen bed against a wall in a tiny room, loved the look, but found that making the bed was a nightmare. Of course, if your bedmaking skills are better than mine (which wouldn't be terribly hard), your results may vary.
Making a bed is simpler and quicker, even if it's against the wall, if only what's actually slept with is kept on it. Daily bed-making is easier without decorative pillows and bed spread.
@Sleek1 - My bedroom is about 9 x 11 or so. We're lucky enough to have two closets in the bedroom, so we put our dresser in one of them. We don't really have any options for rearranging furniture, though... between the queen bed and the two nightstands, there's only one way to really arrange our furniture.
My husband recently suggested replacing my night table with a wall-mounted shelf, for eye glasses and a box of facial tissues, to free more floor space, to enlarge the dog bed since we got a second small dog. I wouldn't mind, as long as the shelf is so well secured that it couldn't fall and hit the sleeping dogs.
There's a relatively recently designed piece of free-standing furniture that looks useful for small bedrooms. It's a bed that sleeps two and is stored vertically like a Murphy bed. When the bed is raised, an attached table unfolds automatically. It's supposed to be sturdier than it sounds. I saw it a few years ago on "Mission: Organization."
I like my storage headboard. It holds bed linens and extra pillows conveniently in a minimal footprint. Its top is just below a window's bottom sill. A person could put lamps on one and forego night stands in a small home like a studio.

It's hard to release beautiful furniture that doesn't fit in your current home knowing that you may move sooner than planned. That may explain #6.
Rounded/padded corners/edges are smart in a small bedroom. Think safety: the walking space was so narrow that my sister broke her bare toe on her bed's concealed foot by rushing carelessly one morning.
@perfidia, I'd place the bed against the wall unless the bedroom's so large that it would look awkward. A wider traffic path is better.
I actually always liked having a small bedroom--seems very cozy and safe. Our current bedroom is ridiculously large (12 x 19) and doesn't have that same cozy feel.
I have been living in tiny city apartments for so Long I forgot people have bedrooms bigger than 10x10. My current is 10 x 8.5 and since I have room mates I cram a desk, two book cases, a TV setup, a small chair, and a full sized bed into it. Granted the bed is now on a Murphy bed setup, but even then it is a feat of engineering fitting it all in there.
Does anyone know the pale blue/grey paint color in the first room?
These all look so cozy!

I have to say, of all of the rooms where space matters most to me it is probably the bedroom. I like a "boudoir" feel- I want night stands, a bookshelf, a reading corner, and a dressing table/desk if I can get it, space to walk on both sides of the bed. I've even put my dresser in one side of my walk "pass" closet (translation- the closet is one wall of the room with 2 bifold doors on each side). I want floor space, and plenty of it.
All of these rooms are really great, I'm just a little confused why no one used a Murphy bed! It seems like the perfect solution to small spaces.
I've mentioned in a different post how my husband and I purchased a wall bed from
http://www.wallbedfactory.com but seriously we love, love, love our Murphy bed! I think a Murphy bed would perfect in all of the rooms, but especially #8.
Does anyone know the paint color that is on the green walls? gorgeous
I have just bought a house, and was thinking of using a different room for my bedroom as the bedroom is so small, but now am thinking I should just go with it, these tiny rooms are so inspirational!
There's a not very attractive california closet in the (small) bedroom, which has no doors, and is made of a laminate - needed as there is little storage for clothing - does anyone have any brilliant ideas on what could be affixed to the front to minimize the view of the inside when it's full of clothes?
Sotasota: Try Ice Cube Silver by Benjamin Moore...
@Jenda, I've seen blinds or shades used for this that looked interesting on TV, but haven't tried it myself.
Our bedroom is small and narrow and we also don't have inbuilt closets (we live in Germany and you hardly ever see those here.) We have an IKEA Pax closet system with storage bins on top for out-of-season clothes and shoes and a bed with a big storage base underneath. This setup has helped declutter the room a lot, but we still have to be very careful about not introducing too much stuff; it quickly ends up looking crammed in

does anyone know what color grey the second to last room is painted? i LOVE it!
Where did you guys find all the bedding i love it i want it!i love the colour of the room with the purple comforter somebody please tell me where you bought it. thanks.
What is the bedframe in the 9th picture? It sort of looks like a couch pushed up against a mattress and I love it!
I know this is an old post, but I would love to know the paint colors in the last picture- with the blue wall and the MALM bed. I'm thinking of replicating it.
For this room, I would have purchased a larger bed, put bed curtains around it, pushed it up against the window, hung a light fixture from the ceiling over the bed, and put small matching end tables on either side at the foot of the bed. I would just make the bed every morning starting from the window to the opposite side before getting out of the bed.
