Tip #7: Chalkboard paint your kitchen cabinet doors.
Creative and informative, the whole household will know where everything is and have fun at the same time in this chalkboard painted kitchen. Paint the fronts of cabinets and list everything that's inside. The kitchen will be message central, not to mention occupy kids for hours.

Tip #8: Use colorful chairs around your dining table.
Vibrant chairs add instant punch or drama to your space. To keep costs down, buy used or paint existing chairs. Auction sites, Craigslist or your local thrift store are great options.

Tip #9: Apply non-toxic wallpaper (preferably made with recycled paper) on an accent wall, or install two to three tall, oversized picture frames as a diptych or triptych.
