What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? We love our open space layout and the two terraces, giving us lots of light with both east and west exposure. The light opens up our small space, even on cloudy days!

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? When we bought our apartment, we decided to completely redesign the kitchen and bathroom ourselves. As we were on a limited budget, we made choices on what parts we did ourselves (sanding, painting, shelving) and which parts we subcontracted (electricity, plumbing, custom shelving and countertops). We also combined low-budget items with higher end pieces to create an original look, and added touches like our lit-up bathroom sink and silver front door to express our style!
In addition to the kitchen and bathroom, we broke down all the walls to create one open space, in order to maximize the amount of light coming in from all sides. What we didn't anticipate was the challenge of finding storage spaces and placing bookshelves — the less walls you have, the less surfaces and corners there are for tucking things away! Everything is exposed and now our challenge is to make our storage look interesting, with bright orange storage boxes, pieces of art placed between books on our shelves, and strategically-placed plants to add an organic element to the space.
We looked to the internet and small space design books for inspiration, as well as to urban graphic design for interesting color combinations.

Your kitchen and terrace is *super bonne*!!
Great kitchen and love the bathroom. The living room and bedroom space has a nice feel. Nice job.
Beautiful kitchen- I love the colors that you picked.
Agree with Kathryn!! Wish I knew what the red pic actually is, tho.
Great job!
What kind of Refrigerator is that?
I love that you were able to fit a large dining table into your small space (and how you put it flush against the kitchen counter). I love having dinner parties, and could never live with only a two or four person table. I could totally imagine myself entertaining in your space! Love it!
hi everyone, thanks for the comments!
sassydo: the red pic is an image of our bathroom at night -- our sink is red and lights up, which is what gives that color effect. sorry we couldn't include another photo to make that clearer!
atomicranch79: the fridge is a Gorenje RK4295E. it was the only 55cm wide we could find at the time in a stainless steel finish. we are very happy with it, both in function and design!
I bet this cost a pretty penny.
Lisa, is that you? If I'm correct, you bought a pair of Balenciaga sandals from me via Ebay. (The sandals from the scuba diving collection that were too large for me...)? Is that you? What a small world!
I love your kitchen. It's a very chic pad. Enjoy!

Hi Lisa and Jeremie,
Love the yellow backsplash. What is that? Is it just a painted yellow wall?
Liana
Ahhh....your place has that cool European look that many try to achieve without the ambiance of the great view. I agree with the poster who pointed out how much you must have to pay for such a wonderful apartment in Paris. It's a jewel.
Fantastique! This place just has it.
Your kitchen is perfect! Congrats!
And like Liana I would also like to know what is the yellow on the background: it looks like epoxi, is it? or is it some other material?
I am also looking for something for my kitchen wall and that looks very nice!
bonjour!
yes, the yellow background is in fact just oil-based paint ... it's been pretty resistant to all kitchen wear and tear, and easily wipes clean! it's the same paint we used to paint the design onto the bathroom door (off to the right in the kitchen photo) so is great even for more intricate details.
good luck!
lisa.
