Small Cool 2009: Maggie's Right Size 1920's Hotel Room

Teeny-tiny Division #22

Who Lives Here: One: All by myself Location: Los Angeles, California Size: 240 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? The large bathroom and closets! It cracks me up because they are so disproportionately large. I love it though because I have all this space, it's like I don't know what to do with it! My bathroom has a full tub and a separate shower. There are two large closets and a "dressing area" complete with floor to ceiling built in cabinets and a vanity--yet such a small living area and no kitchen. The building is from the 20's and used to be a hotel, so I can only imagine how it originally looked.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? Finding things the right size, without being custom made or expensive. Everything in here was found outside or bought on Craigslist for under $40. (yes EVERYTHING) This is my first place straight from college dorm so I came in only with a TV...there are only so many ways I can layout my furniture but its important to me that it feels like I have separate spaces. I don't want to watch TV from my bed, I don't want to fix dinner on my table. At the same time I want to be able to have overnight guests. The one arm couch was a godsend find that my former roommate spotted just minutes after it was dropped curbside (yes I originally lived in THIS apt with my best friend). The mini counter top I scored from my building's dumpster makes cooking possible (another unit's loss was my gain). And the bed situation – it's awesome – is a rollaway bed found via Craigslist that I fold right up when company is over or when I pop in a workout dvd!
