What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? The open space and great natural light let me show off some of the art I didn't have room to display in my old apartment. The painting hanging over the dresser was a $10 Chelsea Flea Market find from several years ago when I lived in New York. I know absolutely nothing about it, but I love that right half of the face was never finished. I scored the vintage campaign poster and Sleater-Kinney poster on eBay, and the smaller frames hold vintage comic books that I've happened upon over the years.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? I moved into this space after living in a 250 sq. ft. apartment. I loved the open floor plan and the (comparably) large, white space, so the biggest challenge was in organizing the furnishings so as not to clutter up or crowd the apartment. Luckily I was able to convert the closet space next to the kitchen into a small office, which holds my desk and bookshelves. Removing one of the baseboards from inside the closet allowed two white Ikea bookcases to fit flush with the walls, creating a quiet little study.

this is such awesome digs. great job!
Hanging the majority of your pictures at gallery/museum level is pretty interesting and I never thought of doing that.
Nice serene place you have.
Awesome! Very masculine yet still super stylish. I would love to walk into a guy's place that looked like this! Never underestimate the power of a nice apartment when trying to impress a date.
Super hot! Lovely palette. Might I inquire as to the origin of the couch? Thanks!
Nice tones, and nice vintage black lamp!
I love the couch/coffee table combo? Where are they from? Thanks!
Where do you keep your clothes? All in that one dresser?
The apartment is beautiful. I gave you a thumbs up.
I really love you space. If I may make one suggestion? I would like to see you flip the bed and the chest of drawers. I feel like the one side of the room feels really heavy with both the sofa and the bed on one wall. If the bed was position on the wall the chest of drawers is on with the feet towards your kitchen, I think the balance would feel better. You should be able to still see your TV from the bed.
I like the way your cat matches too.
A most delightful case of chromophobia!
Love it all! (especially the first picture) Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
inkstainedwriter: I have the same coffee table; it's the Slim from Room & Board. The couch also looks like Room & Board, maybe the Lenox sofa.
This guy and I have the same taste in furniture, apparently. I thought of getting that platform bed, too, but I decided I'd hit my shins on it too often!
I envy your closet space. Nice work with the office. And I like the sink in the bathroom.
Warm, clean style. I love the open floor plan, and that is one cute kitty!
Well done! I love you place. I really like your couch. I've been thinking about purchasing the same couch in red. I may have to change my color scheme : )
Great place. One of the best small-cool entries this year. Like what you did with the walk-in closet. Question- the chair beside the front door...is it there for decoration or b/c you have no other place to store it?
i have the same chest (lowry from room & board, now discontinued, in case anyone is wondering) in the 5 drawer version and despite lots of wardrobe editing, it's stuffed. i can't imagine how you make it on three drawers.
in reference to the bertoia chair by the front door. i think it's great. who doesn't need a place to put on shoes before leaving?
thimbs up.
thimbs up and thumbs up
I love simple, masculine apartments. Definitely one my favorite entries this year.
I dig this!
Very serene and uncluttered. Great job!
interesting sink
I believe this is the Lenox couch from Room & Board. Here is the link: http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/product/detail.do?productGroup=20175&category=rm_living_spaces&subcategory=sofa
Only the third apartment to get my thumbs up!! Great work Nick (and cat)!!
Your cat matches.
It's very nice. Good Luck.
This apt feels very adult and well coordinated. Love the simplicity!
The couch is indeed the Lennox from Room and Board (I think one of their smallest sofas), and the coffee table and bedside tables are from the Slim line, also at Room and Board.
And yes, the Bertoia by the door is there for a place to sit while I put on my shoes. I scored the Bertoia chairs and the Kofod Larsen on eBay, and the Eames shell chair was a Craigslist find.
I love your Larsen chair.
amazing organization skills! thumbs up!
great job! love it!
nick! this place is so you! can't wait to visit.
this is perfect. i keep wanting to look around the corners in your pictures. tantalizing.
FUN
Yes, very masculine. Put the lid down.
You have a great eye!
Your place is fab-U-luss. Love it.
I'm a fan.
At first I thought I agreed with the suggestion to swap the dresser and bed, but realized that then you wouldn't be able to watch TV from the bed. Though I think it would work better visually, were I in the same predicament I wouldn't swap them either.
I'm fairly certain the sofa is the discontinued 80" Lenox from Room & Board. I have the same one. Cheapest couch they had at R&B, I believe. It's great and, for the price, unbeatable.
Can I ask where the kitchen island is from?
Not my style but I totally can appreciate what you've done and it looks excellent. I love how someone pointed out that even your cat matches LOL And I must say, I love that painting over the dresser.
D-
very masculine - you give guys with style a good name
The kitchen island came with the apartment, which is a rental, so I can unfortunately shed no light on that.
As to the position of the bed and the dresser - what the first photo doesn't reveal is the fact that there is a large window (one of three on that wall) directly opposite the bed, which effectively works as a counterbalance to the visual weight of all the heavy furniture on one side of the room.
Great pictures... love everything! I am guessing you have a design background?
i love your tub!
i love the sk poster. and the cat. thumbs up!
looking good, gus!
Your apartment is fabulous. You should consider a career in design!
i love your taste in chairs.
You had my thumb with the very first pic. Very nice job! I instantly imagined rocking out to "Words & Guitar" in this place!
I'm still laughing at pvett's comment! When in Mpls, can I please come over for a cocktail? :)
Good Job! I love the light and wall painting.
This is "best of class"! Wonderfully modern. Nice use of limited space. Vintage furniture nice accent! Especially love the cat!!
I love the color palette, the clean and organized use of space. Can I come for cocktails, too?
Looks really great, Nick!
Nick,
Where did you get the key and letter holder near the door. I love it and need it!
