What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? My favorite element are the remote controlled skylights. The air and light that they let in, coupled with the outside plantings that can be seen from every window and the stone and wood elements inside make the house feel like part of nature.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? Our biggest challenges were in the renovation. Finding affordable green supplies, and keeping everything on budget was stressful! Most of our furnishings are older, as we were mostly out of money by the time we moved in!

oooo purdy bathroom! so much natural light!
really like the tile in the bathroom
Remote controlled skylights?!?!?!? What brand are they? Who installed them?!? Have you ever had problems with them?
Gail - I love your place!
Thumbs Up!
Gorgeous!!!
Are the images over the couch and credenza light boxes?
I wish more people would use large art pieces like you did instead of filling up space with a bunch of little stuff that rarely makes a statement.
I love the art in the bedroom! Your place is awesome.
of course, we love your house!
The renovation is beautiful and bright, especially the bathroom. Can I ask a silly question though? No tv? Does your son not watch any?
love all the stone and wood...and vintage couches, and photography...and and and!
If it wasn't for the pics of the ceiling - I would be convinced this place had no roof with this much sunlight pouring in. Can you sunbath in your own house?!
ohhhh the bath...ohhhh the patio. LOVE!
Wow. I don't normally go for this kind of style but I absolutely love your home, you may have converted me to mid century modern(?) style!
It's so airy and spacious I had to reread the size as I was certain it was bigger.
And your patio... LOVE it. Is that a rain chain I see? And can they be used with a water butt?
that bathroom!! *drool*
I love the bathroom and garden!
I love this place too, the white and wood elements add a warmth that works since you bring in color through the large artwork and in the furniture which helps a lot.
I love how much light the space gets which helps make the 880 Sq Ft feel much larger than it actually is.
And you went largely with clear bright colors and not subdued, muted colors which I find don't work quite as well in the same space.
Good job! Love the kitchen cabinets BTW, Bamboo?
I wish they let you have more pictures so everyone could see your front gate/fence and whole yard. No one would guess that the counter where the bar stools are is actually a rolling island. super slick detail. Your use of space is beautiful. I do't have an extra 2 grand but y'all win in MY book. Besides Elliot will be getting much of that when he finishes my beautiful yard. ---Steve O
Love the painting in the bedroom.
I like the green roof!
to die for.
Thanks for all of the comments, too bad we didn't make it into the finals! To answer your questions...
The skylights are made by Velux and were installed by my husband and a roofer. We've never had any problem with them (they close automatically if it rains), and they're wonderful. The large blue artwork is by a SF artist/photographer named John Chiara. Each work is made in a trailer sized camera and is unique. We do have a TV, which is on a danish wall unit which is against the wall that you can't see in the photos in the great room. There is a rain chain outside the shed (but I don't know what a water butt is), and the cabinets are cherry veneer.
Thanks so much for all of the compliments, it made our day!
Hi SF Gail-
I was wondering if you could share who built your rolling kitchen island? We need to create one for more storage space and to create some division in our open plan living/kitchen area. Thanks!
