What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? Lots and lots of natural light — we have a ton of windows and it comes in from at least two directions in every room but one.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? The windows also proved to be a challenge -- they are so abundant we don't have a lot of wall space for Erik's paintings and photographs. We love the way the windows frame views of our gardens and the play of light on clean white walls changes throughout the day. We also love the casual, elegant look of leaning artwork against the walls in an ever-changing display.

Monastic. It's so cool and calm. I love it.
sweeeeet bathroom!
Beautiful space, but it definitely needs some color!
i would love to paint the fireplace wall blue
it's well furnished... but it seems almost austere to me. i like my modernism served with a bit of color and fun.
Love it.
This may seem irrelevant, but what style of home is this? The fireplace seems a bit Craftsman to me.
Architecturally, I love your home - particularly the bathroom and the living room...
...but it does seem rather barren.
A little colour would be nice I agree, and some art and maybe a rug - but still, this place is totally gorgeous!!
From inside the house, the white walls are a perfect frame for the bright colorful (and well designed) garden outside. Another detail you can't see are the shadows from the trees that move and play across the inside walls. It's moving art that changes with the seasons. This is a beautiful relaxed and playful home - not at all austere - and quite possibly the best bathroom to wash your hands in in all of Berkeley!
i love it
I love the architecure - and the bathroom is to die for...
...but otherwise, it seems rather barren.
where is the coffee table bench from??
it's a george nelson bench from herman miller.
Beautiful, but I would love to see a rug or two. It would soften the place up a bit, literally and figuratively.
I particularly want to sit and watch shadows thrown by plants outside, dancing on the pale walls.
Love your tile especially, but for me overall I'd want a bit more on the walls.
A very soothing home.
i wish the photos showed more than interesting camera angles
I get the feeling you moved in quite recently. That would explain the bare walls coupled with the stacks of art leaning against the dining room wall.
This is a gorgeous minimilist living habitat. I have spent many wonderful days and nights there with Kim & Erik. They have perfected "living small." Carrie
Gorgeous. I, too, would like to see more of it.
crisp. cool. modern with a berkeley twist.
Very pretty! I really want to see what the outside looks like.
I want that Bathroom!
It's pretty amazing. I need to drive up to Berkeley.
First off, nicely done and I love that bathroom.
I'm with a lot of the others, need to put art on the walls that you do have, like in the dining room. When I saw that blank wall, shadows dancing on it not withstanding, I screamed out (in my head of course) color! Something big and bold, perhaps with some red or yellow or something in it, abstract and modern and put up a picture rail so you can change out large scale pieces as you see fit easily.
And again, I love rooms that have white walls, but colors are in the furnishings, accessories and all that.
Again, nice job here.
This house is great to take a shower in. After the shower the sound of the water continues. The sink welcomes your hands. The walls welcome shadows change throughout the day. This minimalist craftsman dwelling is exquisite. A gem. Perfection. The home of a fine cat named Jasper.

I love everything I see. For me, there is enough interest with the different materials and textures (the LR floors, the detailing on the ceiling, tile, and especially the outdoor scenery) that it feels clean and organic, not at all bare. I could see how too much bold color, even if the pieces are great on their own (I personally love bold colors!), might be too jarring in this particular space. It has a personality of its own, and I think the owners nicely play off it in their design.
I am disappointed that we don't see more than a couple of peek! (Hello, no kitchen shot?) These glances are lovely, but there isn't a sense of what the whole home looks like. I say this as a compliment-- I want more! :)
Can we see a flikr set? I really want to see more and want to see the outside too!
Love this house!
Very nice! Curious what kind of radio is that in the bedroom, is that available online?
It's a Tivoli Radio.
So calm and serene. I want your bathroom!
It reminds me of an inn or b&b suite. Nice!
